JeepGuru looked at it last night and found a bearing that was locked up. Maybe that caused it...

Thank God for the fire extinguisher. The belly pan made a nice little catch basin for all that hot fluid and the drive shaft probably generated a few sparks when it was trying to bust through the floorboard.
You may not have noticed vibrations, but they are there nonetheless.
It's interesting you said you were doing about 80mph, because that's the speed I used when I put your numbers into the rpm calculator.

i run 75-80 every day too and from work with 3.21's and 35's. she runs better up there then she does at 45 that's for sure ... stupid 3.21s

no way you'd split an atlas like that ... i don't care how bad your vibes are.

Or install syntech kit. (lockouts). That'll stop drive line vibrations.

Where can I find info on the syntech kit? I've searched on here and google and not coming up with anything.

Not much on lockouts either.

turn the lockout to "unlock". it disconnects the wheel from the front axle shafts and Allows the front wheels to free spin on the spindal.

Since the axle shafts are no longer spinning with the wheels, neither is the front driveshaft.
