I'll take some right now...

It attaches to the frame behind the rear bumper. You have to remove the bumper to bolt it on(very easy to remove/mount the rear bumper), but it swings and can be removed from the post you see here.

At the front, the lightbar simply mounts into 4 of the existing torx bolts at the windshield, 2 on the side, 2 in front. I have a mirror bracket shown here, but everything bolts on in the existing holes.

The rack mounts to the lightbar as shown here with 2 bolts:

I've also had this rack on without a top and with a softtop. It swings open on the rear posts making it easier to swap tops without having to remove the entire rack. I can maybe find pics without the top & rack mounted tomorrow. These run around $1400 new... I was lucky and got one off craigslist from a Jeep owner for pretty cheap. It does hurt the mpg quite a bit but it's a Jeep, not a sports car.

Yeah the Congo is a decent rack for a great price... however you have to spend another $300-450 to get the basket/carrier to haul bags/gear. Still that puts you around $700-900 not including mounts, crossbars, etc. Like I said, I bought mine used and don't regret it. I doubt I would've paid full price, but I definitely recommend this rack to anyone interested in a GOBI.

Ive always been interested in a rack that bolts to the roll bars and then can ALSO bolt to a mount on a hard top. I wouldn't be able to use my softtop but at the same time the tops never on and when it does rain, im always at work and can't get out to put it up... should just invest in some nice water proof seat covers.

BUT!

A few years (last year maybe?) ago Evo made a straight to roll bar rack for SEMA. WOL has pictures of it on PJK. It looks like it uses the holes that the door surrounds for a soft top use. I have had similar ideas but i would like it a little stronger imo. Also would have to make it for a 2 door. Maybe make something like Gobi and use a light bar to mount it on the front so that its stronger and i can remove the freedom panels?

Just ideas. I love the Gobi... but even when i do graduate and commission in the spring, i still dont have the money to put into a rack like that.

It now has a somewhat full size rack, that you can at least place a double blow up bed on...but need a ladder as well.
I guess I'm stuck with Garvin or Gobi...but gobi dosen't offer anything full size... it's broken into two pieces. a small basket over driver. Maybe I can get them to make me something and a higher sides on the rack.

I thought that was the Garvin model. but I see it's not. Who's is that with the full rack? and does it require drilling... Then need to add some mesh for flooring. When you do decide to sleep up there, need to make some bolt on/screw on posts going length wise every 2 feet or so and about 2 feet high. this keeps you from rolling out of bed and down 6 feet. I wish I had the tools to build with steel or aluminum... I can make anything out of wood, but the metals require different tools and skills. Wish I had a friend that had this stuff.

Mine is Congo cage with a used Garvin range rover rack that I lengthened to 96"... Mesh would be a lot of weight.. Maybe a plywood base that you could put in before a trip would be an idea.. I can tell my rack is there when driving..it's not awful...but it's there.. I don't think I would like too much more weight up there for everyday driving...

There's an insert available that covers the front portion so you can load more gear. It's removable so that you can still remove just the freedom panels without moving the whole rack.
