I did the route they suggested too, and wasn't having any luck. So I used the hammer. Just lined it up and didn't beat the crap out of it, just eased it in ya know. LOL.

Tried the lugnut/spacer trick.....
It go them started, but wouldn't pull them through.
It stripped the threads on the lugnuts (tried two) instead.
Will a regular Big-O be able to press them in?
I used bearing grease.

Question:
Do you have to buy the tire carrier along with the hinge system? 315/75/R16 BFG KM2
I saw last week when searching this that it was a seperate item and some folks said it should be replaced due to the factory carrier being a bit flimsy. I think it was an additional 200 bucks.
i saw one in person with the OE tire carrier on the hinge system. it worked perfect.

Depends on what size tire you are running.
From my research (reading multiple threads)....
The stock carrier is ok up 33s.
For 35s and up, the upgraded carrier is recommended.
You will find mixed opinions for the 35s stock ok vs better upgrade.
IMO the extra $200 is well worth the peace of mind.
Plus Im sure its cheaper overall,
compared to repairs to fix damage caused by not getting the upgraded carrier.(IMO)

I agree, piece of mind is where it's at. If I spend the money upgrading the hinges to hold the weight, why leave the weak link with the stock mount? Just my 2 cents. But then again I'm running 37's and required the upgrade.

Just as an update, I recently ordered the mount to go along with the hinge. The only thing I dislike is how far the tire sticks out away from the tailgate as I am using it in conjunction with a 30$ teraflex extension. In order to move it back closer to the tailgate while still clearing the bumper, I opted for the TF mount as well. Below is a shot of how it sits currently.

bosshog , the TF mount will snug it up to the tailgate real nice.

and BTW the guys at 4WD in Mesa hooked me, with getting the studs in the carrier.

I was able to get them seated, up to the last 1/4"
Took the carrier to 4WD jsut a couple days befoe Xmas.
Guy took it back and gave it back 5 min later, DONE.
I asked how much? = No charge
Made my Xmas
