STUPID things you've done while working on your JK

Very nice revival!
So was doing ball joints at a fellow jeepers place. The axle was just a housing so it was on the ground while we worked. Myself and an unnamed jeeper popped out two ball joints with little effort. When it came to the third one, we struggled. Impact, hammer, cursing, anger and breaks, this SOB wouldn't budge. Finally after what seemed like hours we sat there defeated. We I realized, the press was on the wrong way. We were tightening and not releasing the ball joint. It only took 10 mins after that to get the last two out!!

I got my universal jerry can carrier the day I was leaving for Rausch Creek for the first time. Came home from work and found it at the door so of course I NEEDED to install it. So I took it all out of the box and my neighbor comes over to see what I'm doing. We're both looking and notice I'm missing 2 brackets for the u bolts to clean down on the tire carrier(sorry for the bad sketch, and yes I know I spelled BRACKET wrong) So we started to make two brackets. We measured cut the metal precisely to the size of my tire carrier and then painted with truck bed liner. While waiting for them to dry I hear my neighbor say "oh shit! We're dumb." I look up and what did we do for the past hour and a half? Waste our time all we had to do was flip the u bolts around and put them in from the bottom not the top!

Spent the morning installing my EVO Protek Skid System by myself, not bad for a lil' 130lb guy. Decided to finish up by installing my Synergy Steering Stabilizer Relocation Bracket. I noticed that the SS would not attach to the new bracket, the SS tube would hit the bracket and leave a 1/4" gap between the bushing and bracket. I said crap, I put it on backwards. Uninstalled everything (after already torqued) just to find out it's unable to be flipped due to the hole alignment. Put it all back together (torqued again) and flip the SS around, still doesn't work. Drive to True Value to get washers. Install washers once I get home to shim it. Done right? Nope, found instructions online and had put the two smaller bolts in backwards. I wanted to assassinate Synergy for not including instructions! Took it all apart for the 3rd time...

Here's my contribution...
Last year I installed the Teraflex big brake kit with upgraded brake reseivor. Everything went very smooth and I was quite happy with myself, bled the brakes and everything. Went for my first drive and the brakes went all the to the floor and the Jeep didn't stop very well So I brought the Jeep back into the driveway and bled the brakes again did a once over and still no luck. Did some research and found out that the ABS line might have air in it. I was told to find a gravel area pick up some speed and mash on the brakes. Did this several times and aside from the fun factor turned out to be a complete waste of time, no improvement with the brakes.
At this point I decide to take it to a brake shop down the street and have them look at it, they tell me to come back in an hour and they will have it taken care of. I give them two hours just in case and what do you know they didn't know what the problem was either but they did bleed my brakes three more times. Took it to a second shop and then begrudingly I went to the dealership all with the same results
During this whole time a period of over two weeks I watched the Teraflex youtube video at least a dozen times trying to figure out what I did wrong and what the issue was, crawled under the Jeep at least two dozen times trying to figure it all out.
So I decide it's time to put the old brake system on but I decide to lay under the Jeep one last time and as I'm laying there instead of a light bulb going off above my head its like the freaking sun exploding. I looked at the calipers and realized the bleeder nipples were mounted on the bottom instead of on top leaving that air pocket up top. Moved the nipples re-bled the brakes and BAM! everything is working like it should.

She was not working on it
The wife took my Jeep to show off to her friends. They go out to lunch. Before leaving the food court she started the Jeep with the auto start trying to be cool. Not realizing she needed to still put keys in the ignition. She was embarrassed cause she couldn't leave or figure it out. I was unreachable so she had to call the dealership. She thinks the auto start is stupid now.

Forgot to tighten a ground when I removed some aftermarket lights. The Jeep started but ran very rough and the windshield wipers started going very slow. Turned it off and tried to start again...same thing. Popped the hood and checked the TIPM...everything seemed ok. Looked at the inner quarter panel and saw the loose ground!! Tightened it up and good to go. That's what I get for not double checking...

Took my hinges off the front door with the door still on my jeep to bed line them. Forgot the bedliner inside and sent my son to get the bag. He picked the door with no hinges to open (scared the heck out of him but he was okay).
Needless to say I had to do more work on that door by the time I was done my painting for the day.
Some days we have our moments other days they are our movements.
