Default More DOH moments with the Jeep

I purchased four bump stops that are longer, since I have a bit of a lift, I decided to cut them shorter on my radial saw, just about half way into the cut, the blade rips it from my hand and throws it across the room almost hitting me in the head. The saw left a nice gash in the bump stop, nothing that a little shoe glue won't fix. DOH !

I was installing my ARB awning and Gobi Rack mounts for the awning. I was using a beautiful socket rail. The rail was a Hansen 3/8 drive metric set that had deep and standard 6mm-20mm and was completly full end to end with craftsman sockets. I had them sitting of the front bumper while I was installing the awning. When I was done I was so excited to take the jeep out I forgot they were on the bumper. I actually got about 3-4 miles before I heard I strange noise. I pulled over to make sure the awning was tight. I thought the awning was loose due to the strange rattle sounds. Everything looked ok and I drove on. I turned around and on my way home I saw a socket in the road at a corner I turned on. I realized at that moment what a dumbass I was! Obviously someone saw them before me and there were only about 5-6 sockets left and a crushed and mangled socket rack. That's was about a 200.00 lesson I will never make again

Heres 2 for you guys!

I only had the jeep for about 2 weeks at this point. Me, my buddy and our GFs had a night out on the town and my gf was the driver since she wasn't drinking and the rest of us were hammered. So me and the buddy hop in the back try to roll down the windows and the rear buttons didn't work. So I get pissed. Blaming my GF she broke it, LOL. I spend a few good hours checking fuses the next day, disconnecting the battery, calling the dealer complaining. So on the way to the dealer to fix it, I notice a little toggle on the dash right between the window controls and flipped it upwards. Well what do ya know, windows work again

Second story, I was under my old jeep installing my RC Steering Stabilizer and when tightening with the ratchet, it slipped off the bolt and popped me right on the forehead. Blood litteraly squirting out my head, i cant see because blood is in my eyes. I go to get up and bang my head on the track bar( i think )and now have 2 huge gashes in my head laying in a puddle of blood. I yell for my GF to get me a towel and she is screaming off the top of her lungs thinking im dying. Ended up getting stitches on both cuts. Traded that jeep in. Didn't like me too well...

Not my Jeep, but...

I was repairing the front end an an old VW van I have. We were going camping that day and I was rushing to get it done. Finished up, went on our way and had a great time.

A month later, I realize my Makita flashlight, which I use often in the shop was missing. COuld not find it. Huh.

Three months later, the van is getting a state inspection. The guy comes out with my flashlight in his hand "This yours?". D'OH! I left it stuck on the suspension. Pretty impressive that it was still there after months and a thousand miles!

I spent two hours cursing my JK because I could not find the 11th and 12th body mount for my body lift install. Apparently there are only ten mounts on later unlimiteds no matter what the instructions say

Default My stupid thing.

This is more of a driving event that a wrenching experience. OK, to start, I am an autosports kind of guy. I dirt and street biked quite a bit while younger and recently owned a couple street bikes (not now). I have raced my 74 911 Porsche track car in auto-crosses and several time trial events in many of the tracks in So. Cal. I do not have this car anymore. I feel I have to defend my self here because I did such a bone head thing. You may question it, however, I am an experienced driver, yet a newb at 4 wheel'in. I have a 2013 JKUR and was on my second trail run ever at Corral Canyon in So. Cal. with the 4x4 Corps club. I was having a great time and was doing great. I could not believe the trails I was driving over! It was near the end of the day and we were going down hill over a couple large rocks. I planned my line and proceeded. I knew I needed to make a hard left turn when my front wheels touched the dirt. Well you can call it a senior moment or a Brain fade because I went into idiot mode and as the front wheels touched the ground, I did not make that hard left turn and just left my foot off the brake. Combination of goin gtoo fast and not turning landed me on my side. I remember thinking several months earlier that it would be a complete drag to roll my new jeep. Well my fears caught up with me. Any way, I have since fixed the jeepand am looking to get out there again, however, trying to avoid the idiot mode while driving!

I'll add my latest "oops" in....

In my recent project of changing out my ball joints I was having a tough time getting the lower ones out. I read in multiple places that heating them up and taking a hammer to them would help get them out. So I was about 4 days into this project, pretty pissed off that my Jeep was still up on jacks and not drivable and I did what any ADD person would do at 11PM... I found our stump burner and grabbed the propane tank from my grill. About 30 seconds after getting it lit up I could smell rubber burning... I just figured it was the tool case I forgot to move so I kicked it off to the side. I could still smell rubber melting/burning and just thought it was a lingering smell in the air. After about 10 minutes of lighting up the lower ball joint I decided to give it a hit to see if I could knock it out... As I was about to hit it I noticed where that burnt rubber smell was coming from... I had just melted the bushing on my JKS quick disconnect.
