Default St. Augustine Beach Ranger Recovery 10/31/09

Wow, been a member of the board for over two years and haven't yet posted pics of my JK!

Anyway, my girlfriend and I decided to take the Jeep up to St. Augustine Beach for this past Halloween weekend...

Little did I know, I would finally get a chance to use my recovery strap!

...So there we are, driving along the beach, just enjoying the scenery and playing in the sand when suddenly, I notice a little Ford Ranger buried to his frame in the sand, wearing the crappiest street tires I had ever seen...

...At this point, some guy in his Bronco had been strapped up and tried a few times to pull him out to no avail (Bronco had bald tires as well). All I could think was, what luck! I can finally use my rig for what it was built for! So we strapped it up, popped her in 4LO and gave it a shot...

...Boy, was that sand soft (it was more like very loose/coarse shells than sand)... I ended up diggin into the sand... crap...

...Then, along comes a white YJ and asks if we needed a hand! So, we try the redneck train thang` and he strapped in front of me while I was strapped to the ranger and gave it another shot... and we both dug in...

...Continued...

...So next, we try side by side to pull him out...

...And the YJ dug himself in pretty far... crap again...

...So I got behind the YJ and tugged him back towards the truck and he popped right out of the sand!

At this point, we had torn up the ground pretty bad on this side of the vehicle, so I figure, well, I'll give it another shot on the other side... So I moved on over to the other side of the Ranger, strapped up again and gave it another shot and...

...come on!!...

Yay! Pulled him right out!

...

...Then he got stuck again... crap...

...Well, at this point, the distance from the tougher packed sand that his truck SHOULD have never left was a good 1/4 mile away, and my Jeep had tried as hard as she could to pull this red ford brick across the sand, and I just ended up almost digging myself back in... (also had a 4 hour drive after that and didn't want to break anything)

...So, along came a F150 who had been pulling other vehicles out of the sand and was able to pull the Ranger back to where it had belonged...

Thanks! Yes, he did thank us, he was quite grateful that I was able to get him out of way of the soon incoming tide. His wife on the other hand was going to kill him for getting into the mess...
