After Tropical storm Debby last month we had massive flooding. I took a sand trail near my house that cars take all the time. It was only 4-6" deep until I went into a puddle that turned out being a 5' washout. Swam out of the jeep, she was pronounced DOA by the insurance company.

It's called Freeway Ridge, outside of Lake Isabella, CA. It was an organized run. I was leading, so I had plenty of help behind me in case something went wrong. It's about a 20% grade, but the camera mounted to the Jeep doesn't show it. Each time you get stuck going forward, you just put it in reverse and a whiff of throttle is enough to get loose because gravity pulls you backwards.

I get to join the club. I was at Browns camp with a friend around 9:30 at night, pouring down rain and decided to try the little hill I normally climb. This time it was muddy. I got to the top ok in 4 hi, stopped at the top and was looking for a place to hang out and make a fire, didnt find any and had to back down. I was looking out my drivers side mirror, as it was the only one I could see, got to close to a rut on the left and fell in. I slid 3ft down the hill and got high centered on some mud, couldnt rock it out, or climb out with the axles locked, so I tried coming down a little and getting a running start. Made it to the same spot, tried a couple more times, then slide down a little further and hit a rock. I decided the rock would eat my muffler up, but I could get the tire on it and crawl off the side. Well.. I didnt see the rock directly under me, and got my front driveshaft/diff caught on it. I disconnected 4wd and tried a slow reverse, then gave up. My friend and I hiked 3 miles back to highway and called for a tow, had to leave it over night :/ Anyway, the morning shot shows how effed up a noob driver and bad night vision get make things. Those large rocks were directly behind me, we pulled them out of the way.
A dented front bumper (from being lifted out) and a bruised ego was all the damage I acquired. Lesson learned!!
The trucks it took to get me:
The trail:
The side I SHOULD have gone down (its steeper and ruttier then it looks....)
And my baby getting ready to get lifted out:
