NO...he has then on the right way. The subdued patches are for soldiers to wear into battle to help distinguish what country they are from without sticking out like a sore thumb. The stars are worn in a way that they will always be heading into the wind as if you are marching with the flag on a Guidon. If you look at the flag from one side they are on the left, then look at it from the other side, they are on the right. The flag is supposed to fly, that is what the sticker, patch, etc represents. He has them the right way.

No problem bro, I get asked about them all the time. FYI the next ones i put on will be in full color....did some research on flag code and it states...
so i think the subdued flags are not a proper flag, but I have seen them on certain uniforms.....sorry for the brief highjack
" The flag of the United States shall be thirteen horizontal stripes, alternate red and white; and the union of the flag shall be forty-eight stars [Note: Sec. 2 provides for additional stars; Today the flag has fifty stars representing the fifty states — Webmaster], white in a blue field "

As far as the color vs. "subdued" goes we have been at war for 9 years so it is normal for things on the battlefield to seep into civilian life.
