Some people use rivets, but I used self taping screws. Drilled small holes in the panel, small holes in the tailgate, then put a small rubber washer on the self tapping screws & I was done.

How bad tail gate damaged and how did you fix it before you installed diamond plates?

I might have to do the same since someone rear-ended me last year and damage was covered by XRC tire carrier all this time

I put it over the buckled part. You can see it a little bit if you look between the center piece & the bigger piece, but still looks much better

It was a noticeable crease down the middle. Estimates to fix it were $500.00 to fix existing one & $750.00 to replace the tailgate skin & paint it. I choose the $100.00 cover up The only thing I did different was when I installed the diamond plate cover I added 1/4 inch foam window insulation on the back side of the cover around all the edges. That way the areas that were buckled wouldn't show as much

I like that a lot fixed mine sort of the same just took two pieces of 20 gauge steel and covered center section I'm too scared to go drilling all over jeep lol really like that set up.

You can get that piece powdercoated pretty cheap or they also sell just the center piece
