Hey guys, I just got an 08 X and really need to put some bigger shoes on it! Everyone talks about backspaceing and the stock rims, what if you got rims that have 4.5" backspaceing, would you still need the wheel spacers for the 285's? Sorry if it's a dumb question but I'm the new guy! Thanks so much for the help and great forum!

The problem with larger tires isn't just the height, it's also the width. The wider tires will hit the control arms in the front when you turn full left or right. The rears will tend to hit the swaybar links when the suspension travels. I ran 1.5" Spidertrax spacers with my stock 17" wheels until I bought new wheels (4.5" backspacing). You need at least 4.75" backspacing, which 1.5" spacers give you with the stock rims (stocks are 6.25" backspacing). If you put on wheels with 4.5" of backspacing, then you do not need spacers.
