You may need flat flares to give you that extra inch or 2.
Yeh see that's what I'm wondering.

I do have 3/4" Daystar coil spacers, so I have a SMALL bump in height over factory, but not much.

My wheels are 16x8.5" and they have around 4" of BS. So they are going to probably make the tires stick out just a little past the fenders.

So I'm debating heavily whether I should use the 265/75s I have stacked up waiting, or go on up to 285/75. I twist my Jeep up on the trails pretty good sometimes. I don't want to rub and rip off any fender flares.

Would love to hear how people with 33s on stock suspension are doing when the trails get twisty.

Another thing I'm debating is tire weight and it's effect on MPGs. In 265/75 you can still get load range "C" which is lightweight. Once you go to 285s and beyond you're talking "D" and "E" only, and you're adding 15 lbs. per tire. How much mileage are you guys losing, and has it killed what little power you had before to pass people?

As for power, a lot of us have super chips which will give you a little boost and make up for that loss

I had 285/75 tires on 16x8.5 wheels with 5.25" BS, and the they stuck out just a little bit from the fenders - yours will definitely stick out (but I think it'll look good). My mileage definitely dropped, but I'm not sure how much as I didn't have the speedo corrected. Based on what the speedo said, it was more than 2 mpg, so I'd guess 1 - 1.5 mpg loss. They were definitely "pigish" when trying to pass. I hadn't noticed it as much until I put some stickers back on until my new ones come in - waiting to order some Spyderlocks! They were quite heavy (steel wheels, by the way)!

I am running 285/75R17 BFG KM2s on my rubi and they fit with no lift for road driving with no issues but on the trail they would have ripped my flares off. I added bushwacker flat fenders and they fit great with no lift. These calculate to 34" high but measure about 33.5 on stock Moab wheels. Btw, I didn't need wheel spacers. No rub on full turn.

No lift. 33's will rub if you flex it enough

Ok, that's what I was thinking... especially if I get sway discos...then it'l rub BAD probably.

Thanks for the comments on power/milage loss with the extra weight of 33s. This info. is helpful to me as my JKU is mainly a DD/family hauler and weekend warrior so I need to keep MPGs up.

I only lost 1-2 mpg going from 29” stockers to 33s. It looks 1000% better though. Connected I dont rub at all but disconnected yes you would hit the fenders pretty bad with 33s. Flatfenders or some 1 3/4” spacers will do the trick. Rustys sells 1 3/4 spacers for $38 for a set of 2, so $76 for the whole thing.

I'm still debating. LOL. Going Monday morning to the tire shop to get this done once and for all. I'm thinking about going 33s though, just so that I won't ever have regrets. One day when the lease is up on this thing I'll regear and do 35s... but for the next 2.5 years 33s will suit all my needs just fine and hopefully won't destroy my gas mileage. So I'm leaning toward the 33s.... hmm...

hello! I bought a Jk, manual a few months ago and I think Im ready to start upgrading it! I want to change the stock wheels and tires and saw yours and I love the look! What kind of tires/wheels are you using? Since I have never done this I have many questions! I was thinking initially on gettin 20" rims but I believe there won't be room for the tires! I am not sure if an 18" with the kind of tires you have would make it, considering I do not want to do lifting or spacers.. thanks for your help..
