Been runnin on cragers plus the wheel spacers for a several months , no probs so far

Personally, I would be hesitant to run large tires with a net wheel backspacing of less than 3.5". I'd think the leverage would cause premature wear on your ball joints and unibearings.

Unless your Soft 8s have a backspacing of 5" or more, I wouldn't do it.
Agreed, anything less than 5" w/BS of 1.5" or greater could cause premature wheel bearing hub assembly wear. My Cragar Soft 8s 17x9s have a 5" BS and 1.5" SPYTX spacers and work just fine, not concerned with premature wear at all.
