Painting Half Doors - Color Opinions
Hello Everyone! I'm looking forward to getting my '12 Rubicon soon and I have the Mopar half doors from my current JK. The doors are currently painted Red Rock and the new JK will be Sahara Tan. I'm trying to decide whether to pay to have them painted Sahara Tan to match ($350+) or bedline them black.
My new JK will look very similar to this one so I'm thinking black doors will look good but not sure. I will save money if I bedline them myself but would they look better color matched? I would only have the half doors on during the summer months and the full doors will be on for winter.
If you have pictures of non-matching painted doors, please show them. Thanks!

i think you just bedline the half doors as it would look pretty kick ass during the summer months having the mis matched color, especially if you're running black wheels and other mods. and then just keep your full doors the tan. !

It's up to you of course but I think it would look best painted to match the rest of your jeep. Here is a picture of my 2007 with factory half doors.
It cost me $800.00 to have all four painted. You can see a slight color variation between the doors and the rest of the Jeep.
I opted not to have the paint shop feather the paint into the body because it would have cost substantially more.
I'm satisfied, I'm just going to take it out and have Mother Nature pinstripe them anyway.

Are you sure the 2012 half doors are going to be the same size as the 2007-2011? I have not been following all the hype around the 2012 that closely, but I thought I had heard a while back that the body was going to be redesigned along with the pentastar.

Of course no one is sure till they see one, but the lengthened wheel base on the 2 door is fractions of an inch and likely did not require any sheet metal modifications. If it changed at all they likely didn't mess with the doors that are the same fitment on all JKs.

Thanks guys! Cool looking rigs! Tough decision and I'll probably go ahead and pay to have them color matched. I am waiting to make sure they will fit the '12. Haven't read anywhere that there are any metal or frame changes but I guess we won't know for sure until they arrive at the dealers.

Body shops will not guarantee a color match. They want to charge an extra $1000.00 to feather the new paint into the existing paint to make it look like a match. They can get really close as you can see in my green Jeep pictured above but it's not a perfect match.
