You definitely need to clean (soap and water) and scuff the surface. I used soap and water then rinsed and let dry. Scuffed the surface thoroughly, rinsed again and let dry again... The paint still looks perfect after about 500 miles.
I think it looks great and it's a very cheap mod (if you want to call it that).

LOL - drive that thing through one winter here and your paint - maybe even your exhaust will be eaten by salt! Our 2007 exhaust looked like it came off of a 1975 Gremlin after just 2 winters!

I know a little how ou feel. I purchased my jeep three days before my son was born, and whenever i talk about getting something for it she tlks about the baby. He does come first but Dad has to have a cool jeep when the baby get old enough to appreciate it. the muffler Looks good and clean. Nice work

Just did this, paint is drying as we speak (3rd coat) i cleaned then sanded the muffler and tip the paint stuck and so far so good!
