Default My turn to build a Tire Rack/Basket

Hello all..welp, I was fooling around with my tire carrier today and that led into me starting the build for my tire rack/basket. Just one more project on the list..lol.

Before I could start this project I had to make a shoe/die for my bender so I could bend 1" and 3/4" square tubing. Here is the die that I made:

Here is a pic of some test stock. I have to say this die works great!

Ok..this pic will show you the two 10 degree bends I put at the bottom to move the leg on the inside of the lower bar of the tire carrier. I did not have enough room between my tailgate and the lower bar before I made the bends:

See how it curves into the frame of the tire carrier:

Beginning of the basket. Legs will get trimmed later on:

Frame of the basket (top and bottom). See how good the die makes the bends:

Welp, thats all for tonight. Will finish this project next week. It halloween this weekend!! Oh..I forgot to mention; when bending the 3/4" tubing I made shims to go in the die that I made to reduce it from 1" to 3/4". This allowed me to bend the 3/4" in the 1" die . Make sense ..lol

That's awesome! Why can't you be my neighbor? I wish I had a bender so I could make my own roof rack. Oh, and I wish I could weld. And cut. And I had the time. And...and...

Wow that is awesome.
I wish I had the time and was able to bend pipe like that. Boy would that ever add to the project list.
