Maybe if the switch was to an automatic that did not have a 0.69 overdrive gear ratio I could understand.

Even with 5.38 gears, Rancho exhaust, and Superchips tune, my wife's 4 dr automatic has terrible performance compared to my 6 speed 2 door on 5.13s.

No offense to those considering a swap to an automatic, but without a supercharger or something, it is a step down in performance.

Yeah, the CRDs here come with a Mercedes 5-speed auto that's a much better fit for the JK; that extra ratio really makes all the difference.

I agree performance-wise but after 3 years im just sick of shifting especially in stop-n-go traffic. And now novak makes a nsg-370 to chevy 350/ LS adapter so id like to try out a six speed in my CJ.

I was fortunate enough to get the dip stick, dip stick tube, torque converter, and tranny mount included with the transmission. Those part numbers are not hard to acquire but I don't currently have them. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Just a little input for the peanut gallery on here. I'm really enjoying this automatic transmission. I'm not exactly sure what kind of hot-rod performance people expect out of this vehicle but all the nah saying is getting old. It started off with "it can't be done" to "why would you want to" My opinion on the subject, and the benefits I see are:
1. You don't put yourself in as many dangerous situations with a auto (eg stalling on rock faces and losing important ground while trying to crank back up)
2. much easier to drink beer on the trail.
3. less shock loads on your ring and pinion gears due to the torque converter dampening a lot of stress and forces applied to your diff's
4. the ability to add the Rubi-crawler underdrive...10.88:1 crawl ratio sounds bitchin to me...maybe I'm crazy?
5. doing what everyone said couldn't be done...priceless

I think its great to BUILD the vehicle you want.. regardless of what anyone else wants....

personally I like the auto JK I just got.. I had 2 unlimited 6 speeds previous.. and now have a 2 door auto..

yes I liked driving a stick.. prefer it in fact. . however my JK auto has much more power than either of my 2 unlimiteds had. . i can actually get on a freeway now and be up to speed by the time I reach the moving lanes...

if im climbing hills or driving into a high headwind I do the same as i did in the 6 speed.. I simply shift out of overdrive.... turning off the OD allows the converter to stay locked out in 3rd gear, reducing heat, and avoiding an overheated trans...

my own personal opinion after getting accustomed to my auto is that those that have issues with them havent learned how to run it and make the most out of it for the particular situation...

plus there are numerous programmers out there that will change the behaviour of your auto to suit what works and feels right for you...

I once said that I would never buy an automatic in a wrangler.. but now that I have it, im really getting to like it...

I'm currently going the other way, my 42RLE is roasted, I pulled it out and I'm putting in the NSG370. The auto is a garbage transmission from the dodge caravan turned 90 degrees. I've had to rebuild 3 of them on 3 different vehicles at about $2300 a pop.
