Just another helpful hint....watch YouTube video hon how to do a headliner to make it easier on yourself when cutting and applying material, especially around corners and angles

I like to save $$ for other thinks I wanna get that I can't make at home rather than paying over $200 for the big manufactures thing I can make, wait...do that make me a copy cat too ??? Yea, one that has about $150 extra dollars in his fur pocket, copy in dude....

Did this a few years ago with r5 insulated board. Still going strong. Cost was under 60 bucks for all the supplies.
Made a template from posterboard.
I put the foil side up for more heat reflection. Wrapping the carpet.
Added some 3m tape.
Then stick in place.

Stupid question but do you need to use headliner material or is any material good enough to cover the foam board? Also if it has to be headliner material what's normally used? Cloth, vinyl, etc

I used to work in an upholstery shop. The headliner material will be lighter, but almost any other fabric will work as long as you use the right amount of adhesive. Headliner fabric is just more stretchy and lighter than most other fabrics.

Exactly, however you could use thin vinyl just as you said with right amount of adhesive, I feel that headliner material is warmer for winter though and helps with sound better for stereo sound, think about it, studios and theaters use like materials for walls to better sound
