Make my own front bumper
What was I thinking of spending over $600 for a stubby bumper for my daily driver? I'm a welder/fabricator. I need ideas or cool thoughts to add? Any tips or clues would be great. Thinking of starting with a 1/4" base plate so I can hamburger deer with :thinking

bumper
When I made mine I just modeled it after the PureJeep front stubby. I just used 1 piece of 12gage sheet.
it took the better part or an afternoon to weld up all the corners.

i went with a "evo 1/4 pounder" look, but also keeped the factory tow hook in placed like the expedition one basic bumper. i used 1/4 plate for the whole bumper and overall it weights around 55-60 lbs. going the DIY route is way better then spending 600. total cost for my bumper is under 200 bucks, but only cuz i bought EVO d-ring mounts which were about 100. heres a link to my build: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...-Stubby-Bumper

Hey, Good luck with your bumper. The 1/4" plate works great and it is very tuff. But the guys are right it is heavy. So if you stick with 1/4 you might need some stiffer springs if you are gonna plan on pairing it with a winch. These are the two that I built the rescue green is mine and made out of 1/4" and the black is made out of 3/16" and both are very tough. If you want any exact ideas let me know.

$65 bumper
3/16" Steel purchased and bent for $65 and some time welding and grinding.
I went to the local steel supply paid to have them bend it for me.
Cut the ends off and welded them on at the angle I wanted.
The D-ring mounts cost more then the bumper.
This is an unfinished project, still need to cut the hole for the winch to mount underneath. Then I will powder coat for a stronger finish. Rattle can is chipping like crazy.
I added the pics in the next post OOPS
