Here's a special shot I took during my trip above the Arctic Circle this past spring/summer (crossed in both Canada and Alaska). This image, in a large poster print, hangs in my guest bedroom. It was shot along Dempster Highway, north of the Ogilvie Mountains and after we crossed back south of the Arctic Circle the first time. Consider this: Yukon (where this was shot) is 186,272 square miles. It has a total population of just under 34,000 people. Whitehorse is its largest town, with a population of just shy of 28,000. Three out of four residents of the province live in Whitehorse. Another 1300 are permanent residents of Dawson (though its population swells somewhat with temporary workers during tourist season). That still leaves a lot of area for very few people. Which was why it was easy for me to say my traveling companion and I had a thousand square miles in which we were the only two people ...

Capitol Forest under the radio towers first off road with the new jeep (new to me).
Parking lot on the way to Mount Rainier at the falls.
The way out from the Capitol peak and the radio towers.
One of the commercial radio towers on the peak!
Mount Rainier hiding in the clouds from the east side!
Reflection lake behind Mount Rainier
One of two tunnels on the way down from Mount Rainier on the east side.
All in WA state.
