Default JE Reel Driveshaft Breakage

Our planned long day of wheeling ended on the first obstacle. The Jeep had minimal wheel spin in fact almost none, no bounce, no hop and almost crawled right up the rock face. It then just snapped.

Yeah, more info.

Front/rear?

1310/1350?

Sorry if that's distinguishable from the photos. I'm still kinda new to this.

More information, sorry I left it out.

It was a rear JE Reel 1310.

Both of the ujoints broke, along with part of the CV unit. If it was as simple as replacing ujoints he'd repair it himself. He contacted JE Reel and they told him to send it back so they could warranty/repair it. In the meanwhile he is stuck with only front wheel drive. I would have expected better customer service, they should have overnighted a replacement/loaner.

Meanwhile, my cheap RE driveshafts have taking a beating and are holding up great!

Getting out of the trail was fine, the 20 mile freeway drive home wasn't pleasant.

Wow, I would have expected more from them, but I guess they cant hand out shafts for everybody that breaks theirs..........due to alot of peoples dishonesty and scams, they could probably keep busy all day sending our replacement shafts that broke "just driving". Not saying that's what happened here but Im sure it happens.

I'm about to do my lift and tires soon so I've been asking around about 1310 or 1350. Most of my friends are running 40"+ tires on their CJs with V8s and all of them are running 1310s with no trouble, but they are running 5:13 or higher ratios.

Since lower axle ratio means higher torque at the drive shaft, I'm wondering if 1310 is strong enough or if I need to go 1350 so I don't break anything before I get around to regearing from 4:10.

Sorry about the breakdown! Glad you made it back ok.

Bryan.

He was running the stock 4.10's with 35's.

I think JE Reel makes a quality product, he may have just gotten a lemon.

Totally agree!

If you're gonna wheel your rig, there will come times when it's out of commision.

Everything will get sorted out and we'll be back on the trails soon.
