Default inspiration for my new rear bumper build

so im getting gas last night at like 3am and across the way i see an awesome HMMWV. upon closer inspection i see this awesome idea for a tire carrier.

http://www.armyproperty.com/Equipmen...ries/MASTC.htm

here are a few pics from the site if your too lazy...

its so simple its stupid, i cant believe no one has done this yet. details to follow...

i dont see why i cant build something similar and mount it on the right side rear bumper attachment points.

Great concept. Would help those of us running large tires. How exactly does it lower? Does that handle have some sort of ratcheting mechanism?

yea it looks like a threaded rod with a ratcheting handle. thinking about using an air shock though, with my on-board air it will be faster and a more convenient way to lower/raise the spare.

That thing looks awesome. Seems like a great concept. Keep the pictures coming if you make one of these.

You can also check out the manufacturer's (Rico Equipment) website to get more details. They make these carriers for HMMWVs, H1s and H2s.

There are some good pics of the H2 model:

I'd like to see a version of this for Jeeps.

The idea is great. I think Olympic already makes a swing down carrier that is similar to this one that aids in lowering the spare tire down.

It does ratchet and it doesn't rattle. once you have the tire over the bumper, you ratchet it down and it doesn't move. I'm not Motor Transport though. I'm better than that.I do work around HMMWV's though.
