Here is a unique place to mount that I found interesting. Haven't bought one yet, but it's on my mod list.
Hi-Lift Accessory Bars Shovel Axe

It's nice because there's no other good use for this space. Anyone have one?

Made my own with a few muffler clamps and a piece of scrap metal.
7 bucks and about 30 minutes of fab work.
Only picture I have....

Had mine here on the YJ. Looking forward to seeing if it'll work on the JK, too.

Yep. I went ahead and put a 13 mm nut instead of wing nuts to make sure it stays tight.
No rattles and stays looking new outta the weather.

This is the one I got and, in addition to my Hi-Lift Jack, I've got a shovel and axe SECURELY mounted up there. One thing you want to make sure: NO FLYING AXES ALLOWED INSIDE THE CABIN!

Mounted mine to the roll bar.
Used two 2.5" u-bolts from Lowe's
Cost me $5 and took about 20mins to install
Check out the "$5 hi-lift mount thread" for the write-up
