Help to choose a new "HOOD"
Hi everybody,
I need help to choose a new hood for my JKU 2010. I've been thinking about 4 different options. I have to be honest and say that it's a bit more a question of look then function. Since I don't do heavy off road, I'm not to concern about the engine over heating...and I also live in Canada so it's usually not that hot for the JK.
This is my JKU 2010
Option 1:
AEV hood... In Canada it cost about 1500$ for that hood painted to match my JKU. I like the hood but I'm having a hard time justifying a spending of 1500$ for a hood that would be use more for the look then function.
Option 2:
My own version of the AEV hood. I just buy the vent and my friend who have a body shop, can do the job (2 side vents) for about 300$ all include. Not as nice as the real AEV hood but still nice and functional (or half functional).
Option 3:
The 2013 Rubicon 10th Anniversary hood. Really nice and only 800$ Canadian (with paint and all include).
Option 4:
The hood that Teraflex showed at the 2009 Sema show. It can be done with a Mustang hood scoop that is screwed to the hood and that can be functional for about 200$ Canadian (all include).
Not an easy choice, so that's why I need help from you guys.
Thanks a lot for your time
Stephane

I personally like the 10th anniversary hood but its not really that functional. Its got small holes underhood which can be opened to make more functional

It seems your asking for opinions so if your not looking for function I think the hood looks fine the way it is. I vented mine because I needed to let the heat out otherwise I would have left it alone. Spend the money on something else.

Since you are going for more of a"look" than function, why not a blackout hood decal like one on the Mountain edition?
I would love to have a new hood myself and came close several times to ordering one especially when Quadratec started selling them painted.
It's just too much money. I'll wait for some hail damage and let the insurance company buy me one.
In the mean-time I added a the mountain hood decal that I got from pixel decals and installed it myself.
Turned out perfect. I then added "Beach Duty" decals to the sides of the hood. They are in "rubicon" font and in silver so they blend really nice.
There's also the Poison Spyder hood louvre to consider as well as the RK Sport hood.

That's a good question, I like more subtle, I was actually thinking that the 10A hood would be even nicer if the vents would be paint in blue like the hood... The hood scoop also give a more subtle look?!?!?
