I just use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel, but I don't see why this wouldn't work. Probably have to go really slow, but let us know how it preforms.

I figure I'll set the blade depth real shallow to keep from having excessive disk wear and sparks.

Slow isn't the word for this. I went back to the sawzall. Much better and doesn't make as thick of a cut...no sparks either so I can see the cut marks.
Didn't make a lot of progress today. Bad weather and too much on the honey-do list. I hope to make a lot of progress tomorrow.
Did I, mention that the skil saw was LOUD...

That is why I love the plasma. Makes quick work of nearly any steel.

One day...
I saw one in the welding supply place today...only $1600. For now though the sawzall will have to get me by.

Another slow day. I got the two top plates for the outriggers cut before I had the wrap it up. I had them mocked up in Autocad but the measurements just didnt work. The cardboard mock-up method works much better for this. I'll model it all up in Autocad later for anyone interested. The as-built measurements will be much more true-to-form.

Somebody already said it but an angle grinder would work nicely. Or good old oxygen and acetylene, however ditch both those ideas if you are worried about sparks!
