The limiting factor when stock is the length of the shocks followed by the sway bar links and finally the brake and sensor lines. The stock arms will twist up quite well if you do your homework on these other inexpensive componants. You can go untill your driveshafts touch hard parts, this can be addressed with aftermarket driveshafts that are thinner in diameter.

At our little off road park we have the majority of the popular kits, the jeep with the most flex has the least $$ into his suspension and runs all stock arms. Once you get into long arm and coilovers you can go even further.
