Default Finally,New wheels and tires

Well the day finally arrived,we got to put new wheels and tires on the Wrangler X Unlimted today. After an argument with the guy a 4wheel parts, and his basic refusal to sell me 15 inch wheels for my JK,he lost the sale of 5 wheels and tires.I then ordered the Summit Racing 185 black center aluminum wheels with 3.75 backspacing. They bolted on with no fitment issues whatsoever, and i couldnt be more thrilled with the way they look.We are running a 2 inch Daystar spacer lift, and 33 12.50 15 all terrains(from pepboys 125.00 a peice, with the 5th tire being free)The wheels from Summit were 99.95 apeice, with 10.95 shipping for all 5 wheels and the wheels locks. All in all we are quite pleased with the way the Jeep looks, rides and handles.I havent noticed any power loss with the larger tires, just a bit of a difference in the shifting out of over drive a little more.We do have the 4.10 gears with the auto trans.Next up,new custom bumpers,a winch, and a programmer.

You mean you can put 15" wheels on the JK?

That's what I got. Your Jeep looks great with em.

This is the letter i wrote to the manager at 4wheel parts.Ill post the reply as well.

Im writing to shed some light on a recent phone conversation i had with Ben,your parts counter man.I called to find out about some wheels i was interested in for my 2007 Wrangler unlimited. The wheels in question are the Pro Comp 8179's.I informed Ben that i wanted a 15x8 wheel, with 3.5" backspace. Now i know what the consensus view on this is...15s wont work.Ben told me they wouldnt fit as well. When I assured Ben that i had test fit that EXACT same wheel off of a freinds JK he insisted they would not fit,and that he had probably ground his calipers down. Now i can assure you that i DID NOT grind my calipers and they fit with no problems whatsoever.Ben then continued to argue with me,and then basicly told me he wouldnt sell me the wheels.

In closing,I know Ben is just trying to do his job.But the attitude i got from him,and then the arguement, was uncalled for.I had physicly bolted these wheels on my jeep, and i know what i am talking about.Ben and his attitude cost you the sale of 5 wheels and tires, and i dont think ill buy anything from your store at all.By the way,i got my Summit racing 185 series wheels today,15x8 with 3.5" backspace, and they bolted on just fine, and no,there wasnt any grinding done to anything. Before Ben or any of your other sales staff slam the door on a potential customer again,id suggest doing some research on www.jk-forum.com ,and see just how many guys are running 15 inch wheels with no problems whatsoever.

This is the reply i received.

Brian, I really appreciate you taking the time to inform me of this
situation. I am very sorry that your conversation with my salesman went in
the direction that it did. After receiving your email I promptly ordered the
wheel you were interested in (PXA8179-5873 or series 8179 15x8 3.75 B.S.
5on5bp) and did a test-fit on two JK's. The first test-fit was on a 08
Rubicon Unlimited, we did not see a major clearance issue with the front or
rear of this vehicle although clearance was extremely tight in the
tie-rod/spindle area and also around the front caliper. The second test-fit
was on a 07 2-door, we made it as far as slipping the wheel into position
but without even putting a lug nut on we ran into clearance issues with the
front caliper. The second test-fit has been consistent with the feedback we
have received from other stores, customers, and even some wheel
manufactures, thus being the reason for the information you received from
Ben during your conversation with him. With this being said the way Ben
handled the situation was poorly, I have spoken to him about this and it
will not happen again. I followed the link you provided to the JK forums and
it seems that the results posted there have been close to what we have
experienced, some have been able to install a 15" wheel, some have not.
There seems to be a lot of talk about grinding calipers in order to get some
wheels to fit. We strongly recommend NOT doing this as it can create a
safety issue by weakening. Brake cooling can also be greatly reduced in this
situation by not allowing appropriate air flow through and around the
braking system with a larger, heavier tire only compounding the problem. I
know that forums can be a good source of information but sometimes the
information can be misleading or even unsafe. In this company we take every
precaution to ensure that all parts we install, sell, or recommend to a
customer are 100% safe and designed to fit the vehicle or purpose they were
intended for. Unfortunately this sometimes limits what we can do but is a
small price to pay for the safety of our customers. If you wanted to
purchase a certain wheel and tire from us we would never deny you of that
purchase providing we follow our policies and the policies of the
manufactures. I hope you will take this situation as an isolated one and
give us chance to make it up to you. If you have any questions please call
me anytime at the store. Thanks again for your time and effort to inform me
of this situation.

Thank you,
Scott Dorethy

well, i feel that your reply was respectable. he did a good job of explaining his company's view on the 15" wheel. they need to cover their butts so you don't come back and blame something on the wheels they sold you.

.....but this ben dude appears to be a real tough guy. he should have stated his reason for not recommending the wheel that you wanted. if he voiced his opinion and you disagree and want it anyway....end of story.

i own a screen printing business and i make recommendations to my customers, but if someone doesn't care for my opinion. .....just sign the proof, write the check & i'll make whatever you ask for.
