I am going to get one of these today! Thanks for posting this. I pick up my Rubi on Monday and want to get the top off and enjoy the top off while I still can.

OP what are you using as padding for the eyebolts on the corners? I used pipe insulation that I used between the straps and the top. It had a gap but after just two days it shifted enough to put one bolt through the insulation. I have about a 2.5 inch long scratch on the top now when I lowered it. Thanks.

I'm doing this soon. Buying the hoist in the next couple of weeks and then installing it soon after. Great write up and great find!

My version
It's tall enough to nose under and holds the top, freedom panels and other junk. The height is slightly higher than the bottom of the hard top. That way only a slight lift of the hard top is needed. I back in so that the spare fits in the cutout. It was covered with plywood after the framing was done. I can remove the top by myself by hunching in the jeep with the hard top against my back. I lift straight up and scoot backward. It was a pain with the rear roll bar, but I managed without damage. The one I had for my TJ was on rollers to move around. I used scrap wood from a cabana, so total cost was $0.
