Leaving it on the hoist would depend on, how well you secured the lift to the ceiling joists and how you attach the top, to the 4 hoist cables
If you use straps, I don't think they would fail over years of use, but your method of attachment, could compromise the hardtop and generate troubles
Mine would be pretty secure because the MBRP rack is SOLID on the hardtop, although I doubt if I'll take the hardtop off for any real length of time !!!
If you setup the hoist so that you remove the hardtop, by backing "way" in, then you don't have to lift it to much, for clearance, as long as you always back your jeep into the garage !
Good luck

Please post pics! I only have a carport and I have no softtop..this could be a cost effective way for me to take the top off more by myself!

I already have that lift (right now i just store junk on it) and was wondering if it would hold my 4dr top. I will try and reposition it in my garage and use it. Great idea

I bought the same lift from Costco. Works perfectly. I think its the #1 solution for liftiing/storing the hardtop. I used the straps too, but wonder if its ok for the top to leave it all summer that way.
