DIY Roof Rack & Cascadia RTT
A lot of Mods for my Rubicon I didnt mind spending $$$ on and some things drive me nutz ! A roof rack just to hold a tent and some gear was one of those things...lol
Anyways, me and my buddy built this rack base with 1 1/4" pipe. Future plans include mounting side lighting for night time camp setup, gear clips for jack, recovery gear and camp accessories. Im trying to plan ahead to get the weight right when its all packed for adventure. I still want to be able run rugged terrain with all the gear loaded so weight distribution is of course important to me.
The Rack
We love the Cascadia RTT ! Setup was surprisingly fast and it has awesome quality. Someday in the "hopefully" not to far future, I want to camp our way across the country but until then a LOT of practicing and fine tuning the experience is in order.

So when I put the tent on the rack I was surprised that the brackets were so basic. Just two bolts through a flat bar on each corner. The first thing that came to mind is that during travel there are always stops along the way where we spend hours away from jeep like maybe pulling over and hiking a trail, etc. Anybody with wrenches and a buddy could have that tent off my rig in a two minutes. Hell by myself I can remove it from the rack in 6 minutes...lol.
Im going to weld (2) of these steel clips to the bottom side of the pipe to line up with tent mounting rails.
First and foremost the clips and padlocks are tent security while we are away from the rig and they would also ensure that I install the tent in the same spot every time by just sliding the tent until the channels lines up with the clip.
