Its quick off the line, but it craps out a little after that. The performance numbers are about the same as the 4.7l models. A little slower 0-60, but about the same in the quarter. I just like it because of its refinement, power off the line, and good economy. Plus, those Mercedes diesels last forever.

My understanding is that a swap kit would be very unfeasible, mainly cause everything from the fuel tank, to the exhaust would have to go. For that price range you could get a 6.1L engine that would ultimately outperform a diesel of comparable weight. The best way to get a diesel powered jeep would be to get a J8 from AEV, I havent heard great things about that little italian diesel though, plus I dont really know of many performance enhancements on that particular motor, though I'm sure it'd do well with the usuals, bigger turbo, modified waste gate, but i'm sure someone more familiar with diesels could answer that better

i went on VM motori website, and i dont know if the 3.0L you guys were talking about is the same, but the one they currently have weighs in at 220kg, or 485 lbs, the 2.8L offered in europe for the wrangler weighs in at 205kg or 452lbs. Nice thing about the 3.0L, 247hp at 4000rpm, and 406lb-ft of torque at 2000rpm

one more thing on the 3.0L, those numbers are not from a turbo engine, though they are available

We were talking about the 3.0l CRD that was available on the WK. It has never been available on the JK. It is a Mercedes diesel.

Now the 3.0l Mercedes diesel, I'd be a lot more interested in. That's a great engine. Back when we had a Jeep store, I really started to like the 3.0l CRD WKs.
Very heavy. My 5.9L weighs in at roughly 1100 lbs, for just the long block

Cummins is also currently producing a 4.2L V-6, (270 bhp/420 Lb. tq.) and a 5.6L V-8 (325bhp/500 lb. tq.) There's alot of talk about these being offered in the Ram at some point, but nothing final.

The V-6 sounds interesting in a JK. Weighs in at 663 lbs. In a pre-production test, Cummins stated they were getting 22-24 mpg. in a test fitted Durango.

I wonder what the 3 liter diesel weighs. I'd think that would be a great trail motor, as long as it's not very heavy.
5.9L would add +1100lbs to the front end....loves to sink into mud Just know from experience with my CTD.
