Did I finally find my trailer build project????
Well it may have finally paid off asking around for a trailer to restore. A lady I work with heard me talking yesterday about my dream M416 trailer I wanted and said she would ask her husband if he knew of any around.
Less than an hour later, he found one out back of his parents farm. Not an M416, but it looks like one that will work. MAYBE??????
Here are a couple pics that he took. He said the frame looks really good. It had a wooden floor at one time in it's life and the tailgate is attached and still works! The old style round fenders are going to go!
We laughed our butt off when he sent the pics to her, well.....you can see why.
So she came back today and said that it was frozen into the ground and it may be some time before I could haul it out for a better look. Well.....again came another pic that he sent today. It was removed today from where it has rested for many many years. Again we had a great laugh!!!
So to make a long story short, I am going to look at it this weekend to see how she looks in person. Oh yeah and I forgot to say it is FREE!!!

His wife believes it is a built trailer and not a custom job. With that I am pretty sure it is a plain old trailer axle with leaf springs, but not 100% sure. I just sent a text for her to ask her husband your question?

Well I picked her up yesterday. It is an old truck bed and from what I can find so far on-line it looks like it's from a 1950's Ford. The frame is great and other than the tailgate, the rest of it is not that bad. Like I told my wife when it came into the driveway, "you must look past the rust!" Here are a couple more pics. The fenders are already off as they were not on by much. The plan is to swap out the axle and put on wheels and tires that match the jeep. I havn't decided on the rest of it yet. I may just bang out and clean up the bed as is and go with it for now after some touch up wleding.
Oh yeah, the saw blade, tire and wood were not included in the deal! You know anyone who wants an old axle cheap?

A lot of work but a place to start for sure. I've seen those old saw blads go for 20 - 80 bucks depending on size and condition so if you got that to check out some swap meets.

I can assure you that it won't be anything compared to some of the stuff out there. My goal is to make this a less than $500 build!

There is no way you will have a sturdy off road trailer for under $500.00. I have been looking for an m416 and m100 for over a year now. You will not find one of those for that money unless it is beat to crap. Then you would have to add tires and rims anyways.
