Decided to do a little stock wheeling today
So I bought my '14 about 2 weeks ago and have been doing lots of reading up on mods and planning out a build and what have you. I have come across a lot of people saying that these JK chassis are rather capable in stock form, so I decided to test this out, and I am impressed.
Now mind you, I am rather new to off roading, and my experience is a few dirt bike rides and a beater truck I forced through about any mud pit I could find. Now I live in the desert, so instead of fast cars, I want capable trucks, and Jeep was the answer. That being said;
The idea was to take the truck out to a small town called Goodsprings and follow a rough dirt road about 20 miles to the top of Potosi Mtn.
I took the wrong road and ended up on a much more interesting "road". This was a cross road that would lead to the road I had originally wanted, but hadn't been used by many people in quite some time. Many areas were washed out and I honestly expected the Jeep to get stuck a few times. It didn't. I was impressed. I definitely need upgrades for what I would like to do, but today helped guide my path, and a big bravo to the Jeep.
Anywho, good thing I found this "road" becuase when I got to where I had originally wanted to go, the road was closed.
I had mounted my GoPro to the hood, but for some reason, it cut off after about 12 min. Had space on the disk and it was still on when I pulled it off the truck when I got back to paved roads, but, from the footage I got, I put together these two shorts of the trail / jeep in action.
The first one, the rain wad washed out about 18 inches deep, the right side was banked with loose rock, I decided to throw it in 4wd and hug the left bank, turning into it a bit to keep the nose up. Was this the right line?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvPUmFBpU94 Second one came upon an area the rain washed out, had about a 10" sheer drop into a small wash then immediately back up a rocky hill, where the initial incline was about 40 degrees then leveled out to about a 20 degree incline. I wasn't so worried about the drop as I was the entry and exit angles, but again, the Jeep proved better (and yes, I was a bit rough on the clutch, still not used to its catch points).

Here are a few pics from the gate.
Thanks for looking, and any advice on lines, or anything else (including decent trails in the area from any other locals) is always appreciated.
