Daystar makes a replacement panel that goes on top of the radio. You can then mod it with a small bungee cord to secure things to it better.

I am a big fan of Vector Offroad's, the support bar spans the whole dash and looks a little more sturdy than rugged ridge.

and they make lots of mounts to attach to it for phones, gps etc.

and if your rocking a 2011+

I personally like the gap between the front of the dash and the window for storage of small items!

I made this from an Eastern Diamondback that happened to cross my path while I was trying to think of how to make a little bag for that area.

Here is one that I made from aluminum diamond plate. The photos aren't the best but you get the just of it and how it's mounted. Don't pay attention to the cluttered garage. It's 9" wide, 3" tall, 7" deep. Painted with rustoleum carbon hammered. Glued a old piece of rubber diamond plate floor mat for a non skid and glued a 1/2" painted plastic tile trim on the lip to prevent anything from coming out.

I bolted the aluminum flat stock to the top of the box and used the existing bolts on the windshield frame to attach it. Put some PVC insalator cushion between the box and windshield to prevent metal to metal contact. Then cinched up with a zip tie. I had to cut the plastic trim for the space of the box and that was the only thing I modified on the Jeep.

Cost me probably less than $50 to build. It works great and I can fit all my stuff in it; sunglasses, wallet, iPhone, and a can of Copenhagen. I keep saying I'm gonna add a locking door but have too many projects going on. Well that's my homemade interior storage.

I bought the Daystar Dash Panel off the forums here and then followed the directions in this write - up from VJR021

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...plete-Write-Up

It works perfect, easy to install, easy mod and looks good to boot.
