I bought an A118. I was going to buy one of the popular G1-type dashcams, but when I saw the A118 I liked the more discrete form factor so I spent the extra $20 or so for it (bought it for about $70).
I had to update the firmware to fix a nonfunctioning fast forward button glitch, but after that it works great.
It is made to attach to the windshield, but I put mine on the plastic trim piece at the top of the windshield. My 2010 JK does not have the jeep grill logo at the top of the windshield. Otherwise it would get in the way of the camera.
Note: I understand that there is a new version of the A118 (called the A118C) that has a capacitor instead of an internal battery (capacitors are better suited for really hot vehicle interiors). Also...the A118 and A118C does not come with GPS, but you can buy an add-on gps for it.

I got a dashcam after getting involved in a hit and run a couple of years back. It brings peace of mind and I have also caught an accident on camera, which the police were able to use to establish fault (one of the two drivers was fibbing).
No meteors or UFOs documented yet.

I went the cheapo route and picked up one of these for $40:
Robot Check
I've had it for 8 months or so and other than having to buy a replacement power cord at Fry's for $12 after one month it's been great. Comes with a 32GB memory card that lasts me about a month of commuting.

I use an sjcam4000. It has a car mode so it turns on with the ignition and begins recording. Works well though I have yet to capture anything to make it worthwhile.
