I've heard of steel wheels crapping out on trails, which is what I expected to find when I looked at this thread. I'm glad it isn't cause I'm wanting the 97's. I'm going to agree with everyone else and say it looks like something got jammed and scraped. The "break" doesn't look like a stress failure.

so you hit a rock on the trail big enough to split a wheel and you are placing blame on procomp???
from what nearly everyone has said... it looks like something got wedged and broke the wheel. could have even been you caliper.
shit happens, dont whine about it when it does... if you care that much go wheel it in a mall parking lot.

i disagree with all the defenders of procomp like they have stock in it
The wheels are designed for offroad use. IF one fails, procomp should step up and replace. They arent meant to "mall crawl" even though the majority of you that buy them use them for that purpose. If something is built to get a job done, IT SHOULD GET THE JOB DONE!!

I diagree. And I have owned them and plan to buy again. If every manufacturer out there did that they would eventually go out of business from idiots who abuse the priviledge. Own up to an accident and quit pointing your finger. It's not like they were that expensive of a wheel.....compared to Hutch's or PSC's.

Ouch.
2 words, steel wheels. The steel would have bent and you most likely would have at least made it off the trail.
I hate to say it also. but I wouldn't blame PC. Nice pics though, they really show the damage and we can all just speculate as to the cause.

I'd be happy it was the wheel that gave way, not the axle or caliper -or something much more costly. IMO, I want the weak link to be the least expensive item and the easist to fix...

Too bad you didn't simply make a call to PC and explain what happened. Who knows, they might have struck a compromise deal with you. Maybe they would have sold you a replacement for 1/2 price or something. In a case like this it doesn't hurt to talk to the manufacturer and let them decide and be prepared to accept their decision. Sometimes they will make it good just for the good will advertising they receive from a happy customer telling their friends they are a great company to deal with.
This is just a thought and only my HO.
