Its been over a year and Teraflex Spare Tire Swing out Carriers are STILL not available ....

So ... I got some pics from the internet of carriers I liked and had a local shop build me one and mount it to my rear bumper .....

Got it back from the metal fab shop today ... they did a good job following the plans and examples I gave them ....

How competitive was the price at the local shop compared to the manufactuers?

Kinda hard to compare ... but I would say it cost maybe $100 more ...

The Teraflex carrier is $425 + shipping .. so figure $475 ... but not nearly as heavy duty and no Hi-Jack Mount.

The Hanson is what I had them copy but told them to make the Tire Mount stronger since Hanson does not include the down tube. Mine has a gusseted down tube for additional strength.

The Hanson swing is $500 + shipping ... so figure $550

I ended up paying $675 OTD for this carrier ....

$600 materials and labor to build the swing and then gusset and reinforce the mount areas on my bumper. $75 was for the hinge and latch kit available online.

I told them I wanted to be able to hang an elephant off it ....

Incredibly they had never done anything like this before ... they generally do fences, building, construction, etc .... they did good.
