Default Gets Expensive, thats for SURE!

I got lucky on a bunch of stuff, if you are SUPER patient but always prepared to jump on a "deal" when it comes along, you can save yourself THOUSANDS easily. I do as much as I can myself but I am far from mechanically inclined (or time abundant!).

Wheels and tires (and adapters) should have been 5000$ +, I got out for about 2500$ after getting the tires for cost from a friend that works at a custom truck shop (who helped out with a ton of stuff - good friends are awesome!) and catching the wheels on sale, buying 2 sets and selling the 2nd set to off-set cost (only 300$ total cost for wheels) plus I mounted them, a gigantic pain in the ass! Front and rear XRC bumpers (rock rails coming) would be 3500$ +, I am only about 1500$ in after getting the rear bumper off ebay, front stinger and rockrails at wholesale cost. Gears, air lockers, onboard air, switches, guages and installation was nearly 4000$. Lift was 1400$ (cost) alignment and install 2000$ total. Winch, seat covers, lights and Line X (all going on now) under 1000$. Stereo was 2350$ (4 Boston Acoustics 6.5"s, tweets, ARC Audio amp, 10" SS slimine sub, custom ported box, Panasonic Double DIN touch screen satellite receiver). Trektop NX 600$.

I am about 14000$ into it so far but it could have easily been 20000$ without good friends and taking advantage of a few deals when they came up.

Offset the cost by selling anything you can, I have bought and sold a set of Sahara wheels (made 100$ and rode them for 1500 miles), bought 2 sets ( of 5) of Poison Spyder wheels on sale and sold one set (total cost for my 5, 300$), I sold my rear bumper for 50$ and the factory steel wheels and tires for 350$, I still have for sale a factory soft top, front bumper w/foglights, full carpet set, rollbar pads, foam and rear interior light, all floormats, factory satellite radio, rear cubby cover and plastic cubby tray. Hopefully I can get another 1000$ or more out of all of this to fund the next set of upgrades!

I've only got about 2000 in mine and 1500 is for tires. I love a decked out rig as well as the next guy but ive learned that sometimes more money equals more problems and the return is not worth the price. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I can say the jeep has not seen a shop for anything and the stuff I couldn't do a fellow jeeper helped me out , that's one reason I am always willing to help out a fellow jeeper

And I have rarely paid full price for anything , I try to buy used and tweak it to my own liking

I'm still in school, but I've managed about $16k so far, and have another $8k in planned investments yet to come....
Finally someone who appreciates the pocket fenders as much as I do

I don't really see how that could possibly be true, unless someone is buying/installing the wrong things.

I would have guessed 5k on mine till I did an excel sheet. Right about 9k, which also includes the recovery gear.

Not if you do things RIGHT the first time He may have skimped out or not researched things enough

It's nutty when you start adding things up and quickly you soon forget what your origional budget was ... at least that is what Mastercard says LOL

I'm not sure I want to know how much I have in my mods...

Especially since I have close to $2,000 more that I want to do...OR Fab rear tire carrier, EVO rock sliders an a Banks CAI. It never ends!

No I've always done a ton of research on my parts and weighed my options out. What I was talking about is for example I have a ram with 8" of lift and 38" tires with good parts, but to get it that high and make it work properly cost a lot of money and now it's so big it's only good for mud bogs. I wanted an all-round offroad truck. Similar to what someone else experienced with an aftermarket skid plate verses the stock one. They spent 300 dollars and it bent, whereas the stock one way-of-life abused has yet to bend. I'm not saying aftermarket parts are bad but there are lots of misapplications of them. They are needed for many things but a 80,000 dollar rock crawler is pretty useless for someone who only wheels once every couple months on easy trails. Misapplication of parts and the payoff was not worth the price of admission. Like I said I love a badass rig but sometimes You want a badass ride but after the lift you realize now you need exhaust mods, driveshaft mods, axle mods, and etc. and if all you wanted was it to look nice and your never gonna use it that was more headache than it was worth.
