Default Bedlined door hinges!

Soccerman1080 and I bedlined our door hinges today. Quite a process, I cant stand taking out stubborn Torx bits... especially when they are painted.

Here is mine, I have not painted the door mounted hinge part yet. Will do tomorrow...

Took a good part of the afternoon. But there you go! Best $8.74 mod yet

Ready to do this myself, the bubbling paint and rust colored streaks are starting to get to me. What a terrible design those things are. Anyway, did you remove the hinge from the door, or just mask it off prior to painting. And did you sand them or blast them. And what are you plans for the attached section? Remove or mask. I've seen both done and am curious as to options. Basically, describe your technique if you would.

Sure thing.
I removed them from the vehicle, sanded them by hand with a medium grit sandpaper, cleaned them with a prep solution and then blasted them. I taped off the door pin/threads before I did this of course. Next I drilled 16 holes in a 2x4 and put the bolts in them, so that I only painted the heads. Sanded them the best I could and then blasted them.

Bedliner is pretty rugged stuff, so 3 coats later I doubt it will ever chip or flake. The paint even stayed adhered to the bolts as I re-tightened them.

Worst part of the whole process was un-screwing the old bolts. NEARLY stripped one... still not sure how I got it out. And SoccerMan1080 definetly stripped one completely lol

Thanks. Any trouble realigning the doors after you put the hinges back on? And did you bedline the back? Looks nice.

Only did the front side of the hinges. And because they are painted while attached to the door you can clearly see the outline of where they belong. So no problems with alignment.

Do you coat the top/bottom part of the hinge (where the pin goes through)?

I have a 2007, so the factory paint had already cracked all the way around the hinges. It was actually easier to take the hinges off the doors then it would have been to mask it all off.

I have talked to the body guy who does the warranty work for
the local JEEP dealer and he said they are prone to rust behind
those hinges because the door are painted with the hinges on
so any moisture that gets behind the hinge and Bingo rust.

So... I would take them off and paint the back with something else, and
maybe tape off the door and paint it to.

The bedliner looks great on the outside.
Does anybody have a black jeep and bedlined hinges?

There was some rust under my hinges, so I sanded them up a little and then applied silicone to the hinges before I put them back on the Jeep. Should be better off now
