Did you paint those with the tires on? I want to do this with the stock rims that came on my Sahara.

Yes ... I plan on going with matte black lettering .... i used the playing card trick and painted them with the tires mounted. Just get a few packs of playing cards. Insert them all around in between the wheel and tire .. perfect mask. I did all 5 wheels in less than 2 hours ...

that's awful quick. did you scuff the surface of the wheels first?

Yup .. bought a couple of those foam sanding blocks from Walmart when I picked up the Bed liner ...

I jacked up a corner and removed wheel and tire.

I cleaned the wheels with simple green and then wax and grease remover.

Then I scuffed front and back with sanding block.

I inserted cards to mask the back and applied two coats as per the instructions.

Flipped wheel around ... inserted playing cards and sprayed the front two coats. I put masking tape on the valve stem.

I let dry for like 5 minutes and then reinstalled on jeep so I could do the next corner. It was really no more than 20 or 25 minutes per wheel ... and I did the matching spare as well.

They weren't chrome, they were polished aluminum.

And to dmhines....I hope you have good luck with the paint sticking. Normally it takes a bit of prep, as in using some form of etching to keep paint sticking on aluminum. I haven't done it in so long, I don't know what they do now. I think I remember people using vinegar last to clean aluminum just before painting. Paint has changed a lot over the years tho, and you might get lucky and it will stick good for you. Hope so or you'll be looking at them being aluminum again. Then you can just sell them to me....lol
