Baby born on hood of my Jeep!
OK...so it wasnt a human baby.
I still thought it was cool and kinda crazy, so I thought Id share with all of you.
Last Thursday I finally drove the Tonka to the beach for the first time and went fishing with my father who had driven down for a visit..
...caught a bunch of sharks, some ladyfish, and other fun fish
...then as we were about to pack up, my big rig dipped...and i had a fight on my hands. Even with 30lb test, it took a little over an hour to reel in this ray. She was just under 40lbs, and 40" across.
We set her on the hood to take some pics before throwing her in the cooler with a couple of the sharks. she calmed down a bit as we took some photos, then thrashed and flopped as we began to pick her up.
As we slid her off the hood and into the cooler, another ray appeared!
She had given birth to a baby ray with a wingspan of around 13"! We tried rushing the baby to the water and move water into its gills, but no luck.
Still, it was my biggest catch to date..and the wildest thing that has ever happened to me while fishing.
The attention the Jeep got there on the beach was great too. fun times.
Was also my first offroad experience since the big swim.
I babied her, staying on the firm sand ....but it was a good feeling to take her off the beaten path.

That's gotta be right up there in the list of most unbelievable "fish stories"... I have never heard of anything like it. Good thing you had your camera!!
Congrats on getting your rig back OFF the road. Gotta be a good feeling. I read about your little dip a while back and felt your pain. (Oh... and the intake on your snorkle has gotta be the greatest ever).

meat is frozen for future bait.
thanks. most of the guys on here like the Skull intake better, but I run the Shark 98% of the time.
normally yes...but when I cleaned the ray, the meat was black and stringy, so its bait now.
