That is not good enough! You need to wipe it down real good with Acetone before painting!

Is that advice specifically for aluminum? (sorry if that's a noob question)

No pretty much any no-ferous metals (stainless, copper, brass, aluminium).
Also a bodyman once told me Always use self etching primer on anything like that.

I used it on my bobber. I painted over plastic, fiberglass and metal. Even got gas on it one time filling up... no problems for the year I had it like that.

Nice bike! Had to sell mine when I picked up the JK.

I would do the whole thing in por15 but I cant stand the gloss. Maybe just a plain old rustoleum flat or satin. Silver would be cool w black fenders I think.

Yes I just sanded them cleaned then taped them off and sprayed. They have been painted for 7 months now. Only one touch up after wheeling. Looks great.

I have used it on a ton of things and like the finish. Between my old bumper to a mod I did on my hi-lift to a few other things.

The problem isn't the paint, it's that you didn't use aluminum etching primer which is required for AL. I used this paint on a piece of aluminum, after priming well, and it is holding up great.
