Does plastic dip if I'm dying it wright, does it have a smell like paint? My jk is black on black but the inside of my hard top is white and I want to paint it but I'm afraid of it smelling like paint for days are longer. We have very hot summers here to and being a dark color attracting the heat I also don't want to spray something that will get soft are tacky.

I painted the inside of my hard top with
duplicolor bed liner. Came out great and holds up much better than original paint. It did smell like paint for a little bit, but I did it in the summer and ran my soft top while it aired out. There are a couple threads about how to do it.

Thanks I was thinking about having the whole top in and out done with bed liner.

The fumes will destroy your lungs if you apply it in a closed space, but once it's completely dry I don't think you'll have residual smell. You might want to start with a single freedom panel first and see how it goes. One panel will actually be a bit of work to cover; I can't imagine trying to spray the rear interior (get one of those squeeze triggers or your index finger will fall off)

I used Rustoleum Universal in Satin Black. It leaves just enough of a sheen for a smooth surface which makes cleaning them easier than a rougher surface like bedliner or flat black. I wouldn't recommend plastidip simply because its not permanent, but that's just me.

I did mine to see if I would like the black interior. It does wear off on the friction points but it isn't meant to be permanent so I expected that. I did let mine dry for a couple of days before I put it back on. I will post some pictures up for you tomorrow when I am at my computer.

Wow you did an amazing job, I really like how its not crazy shinny. I was going to use plastic dip on the inside and Bedliner on the outside because inside plastic dip is crazy easy to fix if it chips or peals with a little thinner and a left over PD spray can. And if u wheel or take the tops off a lot, they chip and scratch toooooo easily. So the bedliner on the top. Logically speaking. LoL

Did you have to sand/rough up the plastic before applying?

Thanks. Bedliner should work pretty well. I bedlined my grill and its held up great, just a minor pita to clean tho..

This type of spray paint doesn't require it, it's similar to Krylon for plastic, just Rustoleum brand. If your top is in good shape, just get painting. Mine had 4+ years of crud buildup so I used a fine grit sanding sponge and a degreaser (like fantastic) to wipe it down really well before painting. It's up to you how much prep you want to do. I've seen pics of some guys who didn't even clean it & just start painting and they came out really well.

Please post your pics because you telling me doesn't help show me what it's going to look like. And personally annoying when people ask others to post pics of what they've done and all they do is tell you .
I was going to start a new thread but I figured since this one is recent I would just post in here. I plastidipped the inside of my freedom top panels (underside only) this past weekend. Applied 4 coats and didn't install back on my Jeep until 48 hours later. I decided to plastidip instead of bedline the panels because I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep them black or not. I didn't sand down the panels before applying the plastidip so the plastidip comes off pretty easy. If I don't loosen the screws on the plastic latches before turning them to unlatch the panels, a couple of the latches will take off the plastidip.

If anyone is going to plastidip the underside of their roof panels just know that it's really temporary. Even the process of taking the panels off and putting them back on your jeep will most likely take off some of the plastidip, whether it be the panel hitting the frame, or just unlatching the panels...

Other than that, it looks awesome! haha I'm probably going to take it off in a month and bedline the whole underside of the panels/rear cover. Here are a couple pictures:
