OK !! I am done laughin...........

The truth to KNTR's question ...........

The 5.7 rating for MPG in the charger is 26 highway I only got 24
( but it was too much fun throwing my wife back in the seat when she leaned forward )

The 6.1 rating for MPG in the charger is 20 highway ( I only drove it 10 miles and decided I NEEDED my drivers license TOO much to buy the Charger SuperBee) >>>>>>>>>>>

It was unbelievable ..... The power was sooooooooooooooooo RAW !!!!!!!!

So now the big question.... Is the 6.1 $6500 better than the 5.7?

Is there that much difference?

I drive my wifes 4.7 in the commando and it's plenty for the jk so I'd say the 5.8 would be way more than u will use.

Probably not much difference. They both suck gas. I had an 05 HD 3/4 QC 4x4 w/ the Hemi and 4.10. This is a 6K+lb truck. The Hemi did fine. Best gas milage, going down hill with the wind, was about 14 mpg. Most of the time I got around 12 mpg.
I would vote for the 5.7 and at least 4.88 gears. That's right! 4.88's or 5.13's still. I had stock 32 inch tires on my truck with 4.10's. I can attest that I would have still wanted something deeper than even 4.56's. I would also want a rear D60 and a front D44. As for the tranny, I would keep the 5F5RE currently used in the truck application. I would swap for the truck application power steering setup. I would also add tranny and power steering coolers. If I could fit it, I would go for a 4 core radiator too.

That is a question only the person writing the check can answer......

Do you want 330-350 horses or do you want 425 -450 !!!!!!!!!!!

Always remember POWER costs lots of money !!!!!!!!!

IMHO...... and with my knowledge of The Mopar Brand....... you do not need anything more than 4.10 gears with that much power............................

UNLESS YOU REALLY WANT 5 MILES TO THE GALLON !!!!!!!!!!!!

Quite the opposite but..... For the kind of HorsePower that these engines produce ...... they get remarkable fuel economy ......

As I stated in a previous post in this thread !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have driven both.....NOT in a JK but a Dodge Magnum R/T AWD (5.7L) and SRT8 (6.1L).

The SRT8 yes has that snap and better pick-up vs my R/T but I found they are very close from street starts to 50 mph. However, the MSRT8 will run away with it after 50mph. I think I felt this because of the instant pick-up with AWD in my R/T.

from magazines...never took my Magnum's to the track but they listed 0-60 times

SRT8 Magnum - 5.2 secs
Magnum R/T AWD - 5.8 secs

Fuel consumption comparing similar cars and weight (both about 4150lbs)

My Dodge magnum R/T AWD with the 5.7L MDS (Multi-Displacement System) with 340HP avg. 15.5 to 17MPG depending on how you got on the go pedal....but I got better fuel economy usually close to 17MPG when I installed a MDS light indicator to let me know when it kicked down to 4 cylinder mode. Highway I got a constant 24 MPG which was great for 340HP. I have heard the RWD versions were getting 23 to 25 MPG highway.

The Dodge Magnum SRT8 which I had before my Magnum R/T AWD was a MONSTER! i got a good deal on the vehicle and I liked all the performance upgrades you got with the SRT8 model. However, it had too much power for my wife as living in a winter climate (to much snow)...not such a great car for travelling around town in the winter with kids despite having ESP as the car would get grounded out a few times & I even managed to damage my lower valance on the front bumper! For the 9 months I had it....City driving was 12 to 14MPG again depended on how you got on the go pedal. Highway....I would range from 18 to 21 MPG depending on the conditions, speed, mountain drives, etc.

I find the 5.7L Hemi MDS a very nice proven motor that has the best of both worlds fuel economy and power!!! However, the 6.1L is again a MONSTER and if you are looking for raw power for your JK...I would go with the 6.1L Hemi. However, If you are looking at an all round motor for fuel economy, towing, hauling a little Arse....the 5.7L hemi will do it for you and less expensive to add more mods!

I am not sure if a person would place the LX platform 5.7L hemi MDS into a JK or use the Ram/Jeep 5.7L Hemi with MDS?

Hope this helps out a little

Thanks so much for the write up. I have made up my mine. I want the 6.4. Just joking. I think the 5.7 will be plenty for me.

I know the JK isnt a racer but has anyone seen 0-60 or 1/4 mile times of the JK with both Hemis? Im just curious.
