Oh I like this

I have a 2014 JK unlimited. I am going to be getting tires and rims soon and I know nothing about this stuff at all, so going in to tire shops, I always feel that they are trying to sell me things I dont need.

There is a Jeep in my town that I LOVE. and it has 315/70R17 Wrangler Duratracs
I went into the tire shop and told them those are the tires I want and let me know what I need to do to get them to fit on my JK
I am also getting the Fuel Throttle 17" deep lip rims to go along with the tires.

I advised the shop that I dont like excessive amount of space in my wheel well and I'd prefer to not have a gap bigger than 8-10" in the middle of the wheel well to the middle of the tire (does this make sense)
so I told him that if I need a lift of some sort I don't want any more than a 2-2.5 inch lift.

He comes back and tells me I need a 2 inch suspension lift as well as a 3 inch body lift, in turn giving me a 5" lift and said this is a must for my 315/70r17 tires.

Is this correct?

Does anyone here on this thread have these tires I'm planning on getting and what Mods did you have to do to make them work??? Thanks

Just wondering as I am getting the same tires and size and they are trying to give me a 5" lift which I don't want. I like the amount of sapce you have in your wheel well not too much and not too little

You do not need the body lift but with the 2" lift you may need to do minor trimming on your fender flares, front bumper, and potentially pinch seam.

Do 2" with wheel spacers on your stock wheels, you'll be a happy camper.

THANK YOU What if I did 2.5 inch lift with 1.5" spacers, do you think I'll need to trim anything?

You'd probably still need to trim up the front bumper, on the outside edges because the tires contact there when you turn. You could get away without trimming the pinch seam you don't plan on pushing it to full compression. Similarly, you can get away without trimming the front fender flares if your wheels don't poke too far out to where they rub on the rear of the front flare. I allowed the tires to self-clearance that little spot.

If you get to the point where you're out pushing the jeep around off-road then you'll need to reevaluate your flares and decide on extended bumpstops or cutting the flares a bit- still not an issue for a daily driver which is what most folks are using these things for anyways.

I would probably go 2.5" just to compensate for any eventual added weight and natural sag of the coil. I actually did go 2.5" but with 33's since mine is a long distance daily driver. 35's would be ideal.

That's 2.5" coil lift with 1.5" wheel spacers and 33" tires....

3" lift. Any more and it'd make those 35's look too small. Parked next to my friends stock JK
