33" on stock tire carrier
Does anyone have any advice on how a 33" tire does on a stock tire carrier. I am thinking about getting 33" trail grapplers and putting them one my stock carrier. Any one have a bad experience with this? I have heard that 35"s will hurt your door, haven't heard anything about 33"s. thanks

I've been running my 33 on my stock carrier for 1.5 years now with no issue. I do take the spare off when offroad due to the excess stress from bouncing around all day. I've got a JKU so i have the extra room to throw the spare in the back.

Not so much the size of the tire, more so the actual weight and the backspacing on your wheel that will affect your tailgate more. Yes, common sense says the bigger size tire will be heavier, but if your backspacing on your wheel is less, that means it sits further out which will affect your tailgate more. So, it's a combination of things but with a 33" it's pretty much almost stock size so you should be fine.

This issue is one of the biggest over reactions out there. I know people who have run 37s with steel wheels on the stock carrier with NO problems for years. I ran 130lbs of 35" Toyo MT with steel wheel for 2 years no issues with lots of wheeling. You can run ALOT of weight on there, yes even while wheeling, and have no issues. Worst case is some minor wear on the welded hinges, but there is not one person who has had their tail gate fall off or anything like that.
In short, GO FOR IT!
