So, if the future Wrangler lost 1/2ton by going all aluminum and smaller, the engine can go smaller or even hybrid diesel electric. Let's say 3,000 or less pounds with 250 HP and 400 lbs torque. The Renegade has a 4 banger diesel with 260 pounds torque getting 4.5 liters for 100 kilometers. Someone double check me but isn't that about 60 mpg?

I'm really not a fan of the design of the new renegade and the new cherokee at all. Really ugly stuff. They both have very undesirable body curves and look like more cheap American crap, even if it its built in Italy.
At least the fiats (and minis) look like quality built vehicles. Jeep not so much.
It will be interesting to see what they roll out for the next JK knowing that it will never be boxy again due to gas regulations and an attempt to get better gas mileage.
I have an 07 and yeah its a bit too much plastic in the interior and the new 2012 + Fiat interiors aren't that bad and it looks to be better quality so I can't complain with that.
The hard part is satisfying the old hardcore Jeep base and also the new fans who want the latest and greatest technology. Should be interesting but if they keep going the way its going I think I'm going to be a JK'er for life.
Looks like it could go the way of the FJ

I don't have the article handy, but they described the market base they are trying to appeal to with this vehicle. It would not be the ones that frequent this forum so I do not see what the issue is. If memory serves right it is suppose to appeal to the younger generation of urban dwellers. If Jeep sees a market for this target audience and can make the money on it then all the power to them.
For its purpose it doesn't look that bad in my eyes, I'd never purchase one as it is not what I look for in a vehicle. Family members or my girlfriend I can see driving it and enjoying it.

Definitely better than the Compass, Patriot, or new Cherokee... If Jeep didn't have these smaller, fuel efficient vehicles in their fleet, Wrangler production would stop tomorrow! I wouldn't necessarily want to drive one, but I'm sure glad there are people out there that do!
