No - I fretted about installing them or not, but have run without them for two years plus now. Does not adversely affect any of your Jeep's safety features (air bag deployment, etc.).

Jake is that what you use? How does it hold up? I read somewhere else that the bumper comes with one but I have no clue, just looking for some cheap solutions just in case.

my plate has been hanging on there with zip ties for the past 2 bumpers. I'm not drilling into it for the state of NJ, F that.

I used the hardware until it loosened up and fell off. I've been on zip ties ever since.

same here. I had mine mounted with that bracket with zero issues. would much rather have bolts vs a plastic ziptie holding it on.
