As someone who has been through the OSHA Crane and Rigging training and has failed many straps and cables, 5 1/2 years in charge of prooof loading and inspecting all lifting hardware (straps, cables, shackles, spreader bars) used on the C-17 production line, I can not stress how much energy is stored in these when under load. Always inspect your equipment before use and do not use them if they are damaged.

I think the biggest thing is people bolt on equipment like winches and then forget about them...it doesn't work like that. They need to be checked regularly, more depending upon usage.
I'd rather spend the extra few minutes checking the steup than be stuck, or worse- injured.
