Default Sand in your rear diff

i'm going beaching with my jeep for the first time--
i read all the posts about tire pressure & washing the salt off, but a friend of mine warrned me about gettig sand in your rear diff..especially if you start to sink down a little..

urban ledgend? or something i need to worry about?

If you go rolling your jeep through the surf also, maybe. I'm an ocean lifeguard part-time and our equipment such as 4 wheelers get all kinds of sand and salt and crap in them fast. Most of the bearings do an ok job of keeping things out until they hit the salt water. That seems to be the major contributor of our problems on the beach.

Unless your sucking sand and/or salt water in through your breather tubes, I'm not sure how sand would get into your diff.

You can get sand in the front diff especially if it's suspended in water, been there done that.

keep your JK out of the surf... the salt water is horrible anyways
