Default Sand Dunes and A JKU...

I took my 2008 JKU Sahara to Zion National Park this weekend. While there, I thought I'd see the Coral Pink Sand Dunes.

They looked nice, and the sand rails were just floating around. It'd been raining and things were pretty firm.

I have 34" tires that are 13.5" wide. I thought I would be okay out there.

No problem driving onto the dunes and as long as I kept my speed up things were great.

Things got dicey when I had to slow down driving up the access road to the dunes. I started digging into the loose dry sand. It took me three tries to get out.

Lesson: 5000 lbs of JK = Potential trouble in deep sand. And I had an absolute blast!

Default Less Air Might Have Helped...

I aired down to 20 psi. I know some of you are laughing, but it is 20 miles to the nearest air... I chickened out.

Airing down is KEY in getting anywhere on soft sand, it dramatically allows for a greater amount of footing on the sand and allows you to float, I personally drive on the dunes at 18 psi but it can vary with how much weight you have on your car

Yeah. I had 3 adults and 3 kids - with my hard top on and 3rd row seat in.

Heavy!

I drive mine home about 30-40 minutes sometimes on the road at 11-12 psi. Don't be skeered

That is awesome, I've never seen a compressor mounted there. Typically they're under the hood or in the cabin. Do you have it hard wired to your battery? Pretty stealthy!

Haha not saying its the best solution, just saying, it CAN be done. Wheel width plays a big part too. Tires like to hug an 8" wheel better than a 10"
